A Note from Your President ~
As we come to the end of the year, we have much to be thankful for and can enjoy. We have lost some dear and wonderful friends and still have many more whom we enjoy. There are many who dance and many more who would like to learn. There is one more dance this year: SRC is having a Christmas Dinner Dance to celebrate the holiday season and the year we have enjoyed. The club is providing the ham and turkey; we are asking you to bring your favorite dish to share and . . . it is semi-formal. Yes, the gentlemen must wear a tie and a sport coat. Come and visit with your friends, have dinner, and dance your little feet off to the music of Peggy Hunt, a great DJ.
On another note, the Liquor Control Board has rescinded our banquet permit. This means that we can no longer have alcohol in our dances. Sue and I went to the board three times to try and work this out, to not allow this to happen. They were persistent. We can NOT have alcohol at the dance; we can NOT drink alcohol in the parking lot; if it is brought into the dance, the person who brought it will be asked to take it out immediately. If a person desires to have a drink, AmVets will sign him/her in at the bar, that person can have the drink in the bar, and then return to the dance, but not with the drink. AmVets will rescind our permit with them if we are fined regarding the alcohol issue; the fine is $150.
On a brighter note, to celebrate the first dance in January (and a return to two dances a month) we will have a special admission fee of $6 for everyone that comes to the dance. So, bring your friends! The Michael Crain Duo will be playing. They have a great following and were very good the last time. They play the type of mix we like: country, ballroom, and rock and roll. This is great!
Thank you for your support by enjoying the dances, bringing your friends, and volunteering to help out for both the set up and take down each dance. Members, please start considering what position you will be running for in March, 2012. Several board members want to step
down as they have been on the board for several years. It is a rewarding opportunity, working with a great team who wants to grow this club
